1. Download the app: To start, download the app from the AppStore on iPad. Search for: GoLexic for Reading & Spelling.
You will be asked to allow GoLexic to use your device's microphone, as several exercises require speech. To protect your privacy, we use a speech recognition solution that never saves or sends voice recordings out of your iPad. This means no one can listen to what is said when the microphone is active, not even us.
2. Create your GoLexic account: Once the app is installed on your device, create your account using your email address.
3. Start your subscription: After your account is created, you will be taken to the subscription screen: Subscribe to start using the app. You will not be billing in the first 2 weeks, to give you a chance the try out the app for free.
And that's it! You can start.
4. Read the onboarding tips. We recommend reading the onboarding tips that are presented to you when you first open the app. You can always access them by tapping the corresponding icon at the bottom of the menu bar.
5. Start training! Each day, the app prepares a short "training session" for your child, consisting in 1 to 3 exercises. Every time you complete all the exercises in a session, the app prepares a new session for the next day.
You can go through these sessions and training exercises at your own pace.
In your first week, you will work on assessing and strengthening alphabet knowledge. The app will alternate exercises to assess:
- letter knowledge, with varying levels of difficulty
- oral knowledge of the letter-names
- knowledge of the vowels and their sounds
If any gaps are identified, they will be also trained.
By the end of this assessment, which spreads over 6 sessions, you will enter the first main exercise track. It centers on over 40+ special Reading and Spelling lessons that practise reading and spelling skills with carefully selected words, sounds and letter combinations.
