The App can use the regional language variants enabled on your device, but if it cannot identify your preferred language setting (for instance Canadian, Irish, Singaporean, or Australian English), it will default back to British English.

Follow the steps in this tutorial to make sure the App knows what regional language variant to use.

For English, the regional options are:

  • Australia
  • Canada
  • India
  • Ireland
  • New Zealand
  • Singapore
  • South Africa
  • United Kingdom
  • United States

For German, the regional options are:

  • Austria
  • Germany
  • Switzerland

How to troubleshoot your device if it does not submit the correct region information

Let's say you are from Canada and want to make sure the App listens for a Canadian accent when your child is reading - all of the 5 following conditions must be met:

1. The device should use iOS 16.0 or newer

2. The App version should be updated to GoLexic 3.14.0 or newer

3. In Settings, → General → Language & Region, verify that English (Canada) is at the top of the Preferred Languages list.

4. In Settings → General → Keyboard, verify that "Enable Dictation" toggle is turned on.

5. In Settings → General → KeyboardDictation Languages, verify that English (Canada) is listed. In this option is unavailable, and you see a message saying that support for English (Canada) will be downloaded later, connect to wi-fi, open Notes app, open English (Canada) keyboard and tap on the microphone button to begin dictation. This will force the device to download the resources needed for English (Canada) support.
